What happened on Sunday?
On Sunday morning, 11 October, Polish police got information about a possible attack on Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. The warning first came to the State Protection Service (SOP). This service protects the most important people in the country. It checked the information and passed it to the police.
At 11 a.m. officers from the police, SOP and the Internal Security Agency (ABW) had an emergency meeting. Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesman for the minister who coordinates the special services, spoke about a “high probability” that the threats could be carried out.
In the afternoon, Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński wrote on X that a man was detained. Donald Tusk thanked the police for their fast and decisive action. By Sunday evening, the authorities had not said who the man is, where he was detained or what kind of attack he planned.
Why is this story important?

- It came at the end of a hard week. There were three attacks in schools in the Mazovia region, and one person died. You can read about it in our earlier news: school attacks in Poland in simple English.
