Poland’s women’s football team is one step closer to its first World Cup. On Tuesday, 13 October, Poland played Belgium in Gdańsk. It was the second match of a play-off semi-final. Belgium won the first match 1–0 in Leuven, so Poland needed to score.
Ewa Pajor scored the first goal just before half-time. Paulina Tomasiak scored the second goal in the 67th minute. Belgium scored once, so after 90 minutes it was 2–1, and the total score of the two matches was 2–2. The teams played extra time. Belgium scored in the 105th minute, but Pajor scored again in the 116th minute. The total score was now 3–3.
Then came the penalty shoot-out. Goalkeeper Kinga Seweryn saved two penalties, and Poland won 4–3.
