Opisał je serwis Wirtualne Media, a liczby z wystąpienia Omdii podaje też Prensario Zone.

  • Short version: Poland watches more microdramas than any other country in Central and Eastern Europe.
  • Number to remember: about 3.5 million Polish adults have used or tried microdrama apps.
  • Why it matters: short series are a new, cheap way to practise English with real dialogue.

The news in simple English (B1)

A microdrama is a very short TV series for your phone. One episode is usually from less than a minute to about two minutes long. The video is vertical, so you hold your phone normally. The story moves fast, and almost every episode ends with a cliffhanger – a surprising moment that makes you want to watch the next part.

This format started mainly in China. Now it is growing all over the world. According to the research company Omdia, the global microdrama market is worth about 14 billion US dollars in 2026. China has around three quarters of this money. Omdia expects the market to reach about 25 billion dollars by 2031.

What about Poland?

Eastern Europe is the fastest-growing region this year: revenue there may grow by more than 200 percent. Poland is the biggest market in the region. Experts at MIPCOM said that people in Poland watch microdramas about twice as often as people in Spain.

An earlier study by WPP Media found that about 3.5 million adults in Poland have used or tested microdrama apps. Almost 10 million people have seen microdramas on social media. Many people think only women watch these stories, but this is not true: in the UK, 54 percent of users are men.

Experts say the next step for Poland is local production – stories made in Poland, with Polish actors and topics.
